Root canal therapy is when the nerve inside the tooth is threatened by decay, infection, or trauma. The pulp, bacteria, and decay are removed to save the tooth. This is the treatment of choice to save a tooth that otherwise would have to be removed.
While the tooth is numb, an access opening is made on top of the tooth. A series of root canal files are placed into the opening to clean and shape the canals of each root. Special cleansers and antimicrobial agents clean the tooth from bacteria, pulp, and decay.
